With regular yoga practice also known as asana practice you can increase flexibility, strength, balance and coordination. Practice may help to increase range of motion in the joints and improve posture. Yoga along with meditation and breathing practice known as Pranayama can calm the nervous system, improve quality of sleep as well as promote a clearer more focused mind. Pranayama or breath control, manipulation of the breath, and relaxation techniques are practices used to turn the awareness inward and may help to:

• Decrease inflammation

• Relieve chronic pain

• Reduce stress, muscle tension, anxiety and depression

• Lower blood pressure and heart rate

• Improve heart and respiratory function

The practice of yoga teaches us to connect our mind to the body increasing self awareness while linking breath to movement to bring harmony for the mind, body and soul.

Aside from the physical benefits, one of the best benefits of yoga is how it helps a person to manage stress. These practices can calm the Central Nervous System reducing the activity of the Sympathetic Nervous System (fight or flight) so that in can be in balance with the Parasympathetic Nervous System (rest and digest) resulting in calm controlled breathing sending a message to the brain that all is well.
